Here's a quick rundown on the latest findings for myopia treatment

Myopia is progressive and requires a treatment that equally addresses correcting vision and managing the  vision deterioration and physical changes to the eye that come along with myopic progression. Myopia can lead to sight-threatening eye conditions in the future and is the leading cause of preventable blindness. Genetics, screen time, up-close activities, and time spent outdoors are common myopia risk factors.

Learn More About Myopia

a holistic myopia management program for children, focusing on treating the child's visual needs, creating healthy eye habits, and keeping up with their busy lifestyle.

Myopia diagnoses have increased greatly in the past 20 years, particularly in school-aged children. Genetics, natural eye growth, and youth lifestyle changes such as reduced outdoor activities and increased electronic device usage have been the main causes of an increase in myopia. Parents and guardians may want to explore options to slow down the progression of their child’s myopia. One such option is the use of eyeglasses with the Guardian lens system. The Guardian lens series is designed to help control the progression of myopia in children and young adults. These lenses use a special design that helps to reduce the strain on the eye's focusing system, which can help slow down the progression of myopia. The lenses are worn for at least six hours each day but can be worn for the remainder of the day.

To use the Guardian lens series as a myopia control system, you would need to follow the plan for a minimum of three years. Here's a rough outline of our steps to be followed:

Year One:

  • Start by getting an eye exam to determine the severity of your child’s myopia. Consult with your doctor on treatments available and if choosing eyeglasses go with the Guardian System. This series can be used in conjunction with contact wearers as well, following the guidelines of a six-hour minimum usage of the eyeglasses each day.
  • Get fitted for Guardian lenses and start wearing them for a minimum of six hours daily.
  • Have follow-up exams with your eye doctor every six months to monitor your progress.
  • Get a new set of lenses with any necessary adjustments to your prescription or lens design.
  • Continue to wear the lenses as prescribed and follow any other recommendations from your eye doctor, such as spending more time outdoors, holding digital devices, and reading material at elbow length or farther.

Year Two:

  • Continue to wear the Guardian lenses for a minimum of six hours daily.

Year Three:

  • Follow the protocol as you did in Year Two.
  • Decide with your eye doctor if you should continue wearing the Guardian lenses or switch to a different myopia control method based on your progress.
  • The Guardian system can be used through age 18 for maximum effectiveness.

INNOVATIVE AND INTELLIGENT MYOPIA CONTROL LENSES FOR CHILDREN

The Guardian series of lenses are next-generation designs that incorporate circular defocus to limit the worsening of myopia in young people. By controlling both the myopia deepening rate and reducing axial growth, these lenses can help slow down the progression of myopia in children and adolescents. The use of digital freeform single-vision lenses is also an innovative feature, as it allows for a more customized and precise lens design that can provide better visual performance and comfort for the wearer.

This system of lenses is to be used in this order starting as early as five years of age and continuing successively for a minimum of three years, with evaluations and updated lenses every six months. To achieve proper results the patient needs to wear these lenses a minimum of six hours a day.

The Guardian Digital Control System is an excellent choice for those who want to take proactive steps to control the myopia progression of their child or loved one.
